Dada Salama
Dada Salama is Datacraft's contribution to the East African fight against gender-based violence. It is a free, open-source platform that guides survivors through the justice system — from first disclosure to prosecution — without requiring any prior legal knowledge or financial resources.
Key Features
Survivor-first design at every step — encrypted evidence vaults, automatic stall detection, and feature-phone access ensure no survivor is left to navigate the justice system alone.
Single Intake, Full Routing
One structured intake form routes survivors to the right services automatically: P3 medical examination, GBV legal aid providers, safe houses, psychosocial support, and law enforcement reporting. No survivor is left to navigate the system alone.
14-Day Stall Alerts
When a case has had no meaningful progress for 14 days — no court date, no medical referral processed, no investigation update — Dada Salama automatically alerts the survivor's designated advocate and flags the case for review. Stalls kill cases. We track them.
Survivor-Controlled Evidence
Evidence (photos, P3 forms, medical records, witness statements) is stored in an encrypted vault controlled entirely by the survivor. Handoff to law enforcement or ODPP requires the survivor's explicit consent and a biometric confirmation. Nothing leaves without permission.
Coded Safety Check-Ins
Regular check-in prompts via SMS use pre-agreed code words. A normal check-in sends one word; a distress signal sends another. False-safe responses — if the survivor is coerced — are supported. Alerts escalate to the advocate network, not law enforcement (to avoid outing).
USSD for Feature Phones
Not every survivor has a smartphone. Dada Salama is fully functional over USSD (*384#) — intake, case status checks, evidence submission instructions, and check-ins all work on a KES 10 feature phone. Partnership with Africa's Talking for USSD infrastructure.
GDPR Erasure Rights
Survivors can request complete deletion of their data at any time — case records, evidence vault, and check-in history — with a single action. Deletion is cryptographic (key destruction), not soft-delete. Third-party referrals are notified of deletion. No survivor is held hostage by their own data.
